Retreat Center · Salt Lake City
Sound healing and breathwork studio in Salt Lake City, rooted in indigenous wisdom and somatic practice.
Maloca Sound & Wellness takes its name from the traditional communal longhouses—malocas—used by Indigenous peoples of the Amazon, particularly in Brazil, Colombia, and Peru, for ceremony, healing, and intentional gathering. For founder Justin Crawmer, the maloca became a metaphor for how to live: with reverence, presence, and intention. Life is a ceremony.
Crawmer's path to sound medicine began with personal loss and transformation. Over the last seven years, he has worked with teachers and traditions from the Shipibo, Yawanawá, Huni Kuin, and Native American lineages. While he does not claim to represent these cultures, they have shaped his practice with humility and respect. A lifelong drummer with over 30 years of musical experience, Crawmer discovered his distinct medicine through tongue drums and handpans—instruments that led him to years of study on the therapeutic and esoteric properties of sound from Western scientific, Eastern philosophical, and shamanic perspectives.
Crawmer is a certified trauma-informed breathwork facilitator, reiki master, and sound practitioner. He has spent over a decade working extensively with medicine ceremonies from multiple lineages, leading sound meditations, and weaving live music with yoga and breathwork teachers for groups ranging from intimate gatherings to 100+ participants. His obsession with soundwave frequencies, harmonics, and overtones informs every session.
Maloca Sound & Wellness operates as a trauma-informed healing practice rooted in the belief that true transformation happens through the body. The studio offers immersive experiences—from private sessions to group events and multi-day retreats—that blend sound healing, breathwork, and somatic practices. The flagship offering is the Higher Vibrations retreat, held at Maple Grove Hot Springs in Idaho, a 4-day, 3-night substance-free immersion combining sound healing, breathwork, somatic therapy, yoga, meditation, and nature immersion on 45 private acres.
A portion of proceeds from Maloca Sound offerings goes toward Indigenous-led organizations working to preserve ancestral lands, language, and cultural traditions.
